Low-Speed Vehicles: Saving Families 44 Cents —
One Mile At A Time
Whether you are a family of two or a family of ten, managing
finances in the light of this economy is bound to be a difficulty task. Every
month, a large chunk of your family’s budget goes to mortgage payments, car
payments, clothing, food and the ever-increasing price of gas, leaving very
little in your savings and retirement accounts.
You are working harder yet your bank accounts seem emptier, and there's no doubt a lot of that goes to gas.
According to the Oil Price Information Service, in 2011 the
average American family spent $4,155 on gasoline. With gas prices nearing $4 a
gallon, this year families will have to spend even more of their budgets
filling up their tanks.
The time has come to re-think your gas budget and enter a
new state of mind.
For the past few years, electric cars have been making their
way onto the streets bearing price tags higher than your child’s college
tuition for four years. But, owning an electric-powered vehicle is not outside
the range of any budget when considering different electric options like
low-speed electric vehicles and street legal golf carts.
Every day, you take your car to work, the grocery store, you
pick up the kids, run to the bank and check off other tasks from your to-do
list, but rarely do you travel more than 25 miles a day.
Low-speed electric vehicles are street legal on North
American roads under 35mph, making your daily trips very affordable with costs
as little as 1 cent per mile to operate versus 45.3 cents per mile for the
average full-size car, according to AAA’s 2009 Your Driving Costs report. To
make your wallet even happier, consider the fact that electric vehicle are eligible
for a 10 percent tax rebate off the total purchase price in the United States.
In addition to the economic savings, low-speed electric
vehicles are designed with the Earth in mind. They do not cause any pollution,
and some can be fitted with solar panels to further reduce electricity use. Using low-speed electric vehicles greatly reduces the emission of dangerous toxins in
the air from gasoline-powered vehicles, letting you feel good about helping out
the planet.
